Anna Barnes a Pageant Hair and Makeup Artist

Anna Barnes is a well-known hair and makeup artist, pageant queen, pageant coach and co-director of the Miss Georgia Elementary, Junior High, High and Collegiate Pageant. Anna has been involved in pageants ever since she competed in her first pageant when she was two months old. When asked what she likes best about pageants, she says "it is not only the confidence you gain while competing in pageants, but also the friends you make. I have made many life-long friends who are just like family."

Anna started doing hair and makeup at pageants when she was only 16 years old. Doing hair and makeup at pageants not only allows her to show her artistic ability but it also gives the girls extra confidence and tools they need to be the best that they can be. When asked how she knows what type of hair style and make up to put on a girl, she says that it depends upon the type of hair they have and whether or not it can hold a curl. It also depends on the type of face a girl has. If her face is skinny, she may need a hair style that is a little more full to make her face look fuller. If her face is full, she may need something that is a little more straight to adapt to her face. She has many different types of makeup and she uses whatever colors look best on the girl. Anna says the hardest part of doing hair and makeup at pageants is the timing. Often, there is not enough time but she always finds the time to get her contestants ready to go out on the stage looking beautiful and self-confident.

The best advice she has every given her girls is "to be you and be confident and look like you are having fun. If you truly enjoy doing pageants, the judges will see that. Be the best you can be." She also said "Pageants are just like any other sport. Parents hire a coach and a hair and makeup artist because parents want their child to do their best. Pageants are just like anything else."
