Jaycee Grace Parker-Sterling Miss USA Pageant

Pageantry is more than an event for girls to walk away with a crown, and yearlong bragging rights. It’s the opportunity for girls like me to develop lifelong skills that will shape the women of our future. At the Sterling Miss USA pageant under the direction of Mrs. Didi Henry this past weekend, I had the experience of a lifetime. No, I didn’t gain the title I had hoped for, but I gained so much more. Contestants were given to opportunity to speak publicly about volunteering, interview with a panel of distinguished judges, display their talent, be recognized for success in academics, gain friendships, and the list goes on. We encouraged each other from behind the curtain, prayed for victory, and celebrated the small and large successes. Pageantry is an art form in my eyes, and each event teaches the contestants to be humble, patient, strong, confident, and to be true to themselves.
